Living on a houseboat

Experience a unique way of life, the freedom of your own apartment, privacy and independence, the typical Amsterdam charm of living on the water. Fall asleep at night to the gentle rocking of the boat, wake up the next morning to the sound of ducks and swans swimming past.

The boat is perfectly located on a small canal right between the old city center and the trendy neighborhood ‘De Pijp’ in Amsterdam. Just around the corner from the boat is the river Amstel, the river the city took its name from.

The Boat

Recently the houseboat was completely renovated and modernized. All windows are double glazed and there are solar panels on the roof. It measures a total of 75 m2, has an elegant modern design, luxurious with some antique touches. It has large windows all around, it is a very bright place, like a bungalow on the water. It has a spacious living room with a fully fitted kitchen with fridge/freezer, oven/microwave, dishwasher, toaster, coffee machine. There are two double bedrooms with queen-sized beds and each a private bathroom with a sink and shower. In the hall is a toilet and a closet that holds a washing machine and dryer. And maybe best of all, right on the water there’s a nice outside terrace from which to enjoy the boats passing by or watch the sunset over the water. The houseboat is ideally located for sunshine all day long, from a balcony breakfast to a sunset dinner.

Location

This boat is located on the edge of the canal ring area, the 17th century historical center of Amsterdam (UNESCO World Heritage Listing). This is the area into which you can endlessly wander, discovering historical gabled houses and beautiful hidden courtyards. Cutting all the way through the canal ring is the Utrechtsestraat, a cozy and classy shopping street with great boutiques and a number of excellent bars and restaurants.

To the south, the boat edges on ‘De Pijp’, formerly a 19th-century working-class area but with a recent influx of students and artists, this area is often nicknamed the Dutch Quartier Latin with endless shopping, numerous bars, and dozens of great restaurants. Cutting right through this area is the Albert Cuyp Market, Amsterdam’s largest open-air market.

Public transportation is just a few steps away and takes you in a few minutes to the Museum area (Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum) or across all canals all the way to Central Station.
